Institutional Support and Capacity Building

The limited time frame of natural resource management projects often conflicts with the long-term goals they set out to achieve.

Conservation and the sound management of natural resources are, by nature, long-term endeavours and it is essential that measures be taken to enable local and national stakeholders to pursue conservation activities beyond the time frame of project interventions.

Weak institutions are probably the greatest single threat to the conservation of natural resources. Institutional strengthening and capacity building are therefore key service offerings of The Environment and Development Group.

We have provided long-term advisors to work within environmental institutions in eight African countries, two in south-east Asia and one in South America.  These assignments are normally for several years.
