Environmental policy and legislation
Sound policies, together with appropriate supporting legislation, are critical to the long-term success of any government endeavour, natural resource conservation not least among them.
The achievements of many field projects are limited by the inadequacy of conservation and development policies and laws at a local, national or international level. Actions at the policy level are therefore essential to support project activities and allow effective change.
The Environment and Development Group works to develop better-suited policies and legislation. We have been primarily responsible for drafting new environmental laws in Tanzania, Uganda and Gabon, and have contributed to broader legislative exercises in a number of other countries.
We have guided processes of sectoral policy reform in Botswana, Zambia, Kenya, Uganda, Ghana and Gabon, and look forward to doing so elsewhere.
